What is Lasix Tablet 12 Tablets 40 mg Sanofi Aventis ?

Lasix is use for treating fluid retention and high blood pressure. The active substance  is furosemide and they come in 30 mg or 60 mg in a prolonged release capsule. Excipients are: Pellets, sucrose, corn starch, povidone 25000, talc, shellac, stearic acid, hydrated aluminum oxide.

During treatment with furosemide, the salt balance in the blood (sodium and potassium) and renal function should be monitored regularly. Do not use Lasix if you are allergic to furosemide or similar substances called sulfonamides and sylfonylureider or any other ingredients of this medicine. If you have diabetes, if you have gout, if you have kidney problems, If you have urinary problems, if you have high water loss due to delayed vomiting, diarrhea, or heavy sweating. If you have severe liver or kidney problems, if you have electrolyte imbalances in the blood as well as hypokalemia or hyponatremia and if you are breastfeeding.

Side Effects:
Common side effects are:
Imbalance of salts, increased blood creatinine (related to kidney function), increased triglycerides, low levels of potassium in the blood that can cause weakness, muscle weakness or cardiac disorders, for low sodium in the blood that can cause confusion, headache, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and in extreme cases loss of consciousness that can lead to coma, low chloride levels in the blood, increased blood cholesterol, high urathalt in the blood that can cause eruptions or exacerbation of gout (severe joint pain), increased urine volume

Dosage:
The usual adult dose is one capsule (30 mg or 60 mg) daily, usually taken as a single dose in the morning.
